Logistics & Space Platform Escalation Pack Preview
almost 6 years ago – Tue, Jun 19, 2018 at 02:03:54 PM

Here’s a bit of info about the Logistics & Space Platforms Escalation pack that our backers are getting as a Kickstarter freebie…

You’ll get 8 transport ships and 1 rather cracking space platform model, all moulded in a neutral grey colour to make them usable with any fleet; 4 new scenarios; and new counters to use with your models in the game.

The space platform sits in orbit next to a planet and fires off long-range barrages – it’s pretty much a big ol’ cannon in space and doesn’t even need line of sight! What’s more, it ignores all red alerts rolled against it, and is pretty hard to knock out. One tough hombre indeed!

That said, a space platform has to remain in orbit around it’s planet, so has only limited opportunities to move during play. Only one player can purchase a space platform, and it costs 12 points.

Transport ships come in units of 2 models and cost 7 purchase points. They have limited capability to fight, as their main use is providing you with an additional star token when they begin your turn anywhere other than adjacent to an enemy unit. And when planet control or breakthrough objective rules are in effect, transport ships claim double the usual victory points for you.

All in all, this Escalation pack offers you even more tactical options for your fleet; they’re also available as an optional buy if you’d like to add more to your collection.

Space Rift Escalation Pack Preview
almost 6 years ago – Sun, Jun 17, 2018 at 07:00:34 AM

The Space Rift Escalation Pack has been unlocked as a freebie for our backers – congratulations!

Here’s the scoop on what’s in the pack: This Escalation Pack comes with 6 new terrain hexes, 3 six-sided dice, and a space rift rulebook that also includes 3 new scenarios. The space rift hexes are numbered 1-6. A space rift feature is always composed of 6 hexes, and all 6 adjacent space rift hexes are treated as a single fold in space, staying connected in contiguous, adjacent linked hexes. The rift moves around the star-field, sucking in any units it moves onto the same hex as. When the rift moves, you roll a six-sided die. When the number rolled matches the corresponding rift hex occupied by a unit, the unit on the hex is flung through space onto another location on the battlefield randomly determined by dice rolls. Space science! Pretty crazy (and great fun), eh?

The artwork has not been completed yet but will look suitably majestic!

Comparing the ship models
almost 6 years ago – Fri, Jun 15, 2018 at 01:58:40 AM

We've had a few questions about how easy it is to tell the ships apart. They're quite different sizes, and we also have counters that help with ID. We've put together a few photos to demonstrate this...

Please remember that these models are hand-painted, 3D prints. They ARE the designs we're using and are shown at their actual size, but the production run of the game will use moulded, coloured plastic and the bases will be better than the ones you see here (3D printing isn't great for making them). So in short, they'll be like this but nicer!

In the photos, you'll also spot prototypes of the tokens that accompany each unit to remind players of the ship types, the distance they can move (hexes at the top of the token), the battle dice they roll (numbers at the bottom - dice at each range), and icon you need to roll to hit them. There are also faction counters for both fleets, which have various uses in the game.

From back to front: battleship and flagship (on short stands); cruiser and destroyer (on tall stands); fighter. You can also see the faction markers.
